While stationed at Ladd Air Force Base in Alaska as a musician, Dick was also cartoonist for the Air Force newspaper. The publisher, Jessens Weekly, asked him to publish these cartoons as souvenir books ~ A Cheechako Sees Alaska, and A.P.O. Seattle.
